1. Clearcuts to the edge of wilderness
This is of a decade old clearcut that the Forest Service has been unable to re-grow another forest, so far ("failed plantation"). This on the very edge of the Mt. Thielsen (seen in disetance) wilderness, and right next to the proposed unit 20 of the Lemolo timber sale. The Forest Service is determined to log all along the edge of the wilderness to cut it off from the "indistrial forest". Because it is high elevation, short growing season, and fragil soils, many tree plantations in this area have failed. Even so, the Forest Service continues to convert more old-growth to these industrial tree farms in order to meet their yearly cutting quota.
